Film #5 Peer Reviews

What specific elements of the film opening did you like?

Was there anything that left you confused? (be specific)

What suggestions do you have for changes?

I like the opening scenery.

I am not sure what the movie is about other than the flower burning.

Some more acting in the next video so I can understand the plot more.

I really liked the establishing shots of nature and the close-up shots used throughout the film

No nothing left me confused

I recommend that you add more title cards in the film or shorten the establishing shots to make it go faster

I loved the music in this film opening -- I thought it built great suspense and fit very nicely with the cool and creative concept. Good job!

Some shots were a little confusing (first blood dripping in the sink and the knife). Also there were a lot of the same shots that went on for a long time -- like some of the shots outside. I was a little confused with the purpose of some of them.

It could be cool to have the text (explaining the significance of the rose) be done as a voice over rather than words on the screen. Obviously, this is a suggestion and up to the creator, but it could be a cool element to increase the quality of the film and build even more suspense and significance to the story.

I liked the title and overall plot!

N/A

I think for music, you should have the beginning be peaceful piano, and also have soft background noise of people walking and happily chatting. Once the flower is ruined, then change it to intense, suspenseful music and change the people noise to screaming and scared. I'd also maybe have the beginning stay colorful, and remaining of videos colored dark.

I liked the music choice.

Why was the flower so important and where was it kept.

Maybe use a more variety of shots used near the end since you used the drop of blood falling into a puddle of blood twice. Maybe look for some stock footage of cities getting destroyed to better represent chaos.

I liked that instead of a dialogue, there was mainly different scenes filmed and clipped together.

The opener was pretty easy to understand.

Maybe add people running around the chaotic town, or add a clip of you running down a dark street looking dazed almost.

I personally liked the background music and the suspense that it left the audience in. y favorite scene was the last candle scene where the three candles suddenly blew out.

The only thing that left me confused were the scenes of fake blood. It sort of came out of nowhere.

When first introducing the 'Rosy Flower', I would do a voice over in a narrator voice.

Overall, all of my peers that reviewed my film opening said they liked the opening shots of the nature,  the music because it built suspense. Some students said they understood the plot while others said they were confused on the fake blood scene and the importance of the flower. Additionally, they suggested that I acted more, do a voice over instead of the text, as well as use more variety shots such as chaos and people running around in the second part of the opener.

All of the comments were very helpful and I think the suggestions will add more depth to the film opener and its concept.

I will be doing some additional filming so that I can include some chaos scenes during the second part of the film. I think those shots will make the plot clearer. I will try to add black and white colors to the second part if the shots can still be visible. Also, if I have enough time, I might do a voice over instead.
